Ikea, of course, offers replacement slipcovers but there are brands that have taken it upon themselves to make their own versions, oftentimes with novel fabrics and patterns. The most deluxe in our roundup is the Swedish-based Bemz, which offers slipcovers, bed skirts, and pillow covers for every Ikea make and model (they even take requests for those they don’t cover). The brand does a lovely line of all linen covers and before that, collaborated with the Designers Guild, Christian Lacroix, and Tom Dixon. There’s also Melbourne-based slipcover makers Comfort Works which was founded by a couple after they made their own Ikea slipcover (self taught with sewing lessons via YouTube).
Below, our favorite Ikea Hacks. The easiest way to upgrade your Ikea goods is to twist on a pair of new legs. Companies like Prettypegs offer pegs, table legs, and chair foots that are, as its name suggests, pretty. Even more charming is the company’s founding story, a now-husband and wife who fell in love with an Ikea couch, but were less enthusiastic about its pegs. And so they took the money they had saved for their wedding party and created Prettypegs instead. Other great options come from Legheads, which is based in Bondi, Australia and offers leg swaps and risers for Ikea furniture in a lovely array of colors.
